This past February at a real estate conference at the University of Miami, Philip Aarons an advocate for The High Line, a New York park that was built upon an abandoned railway, spoke of the success of The High Line. Recently, Miami-Dade County hired James Corner Field Operations, the firm that is known for designing the successful New York City park to plan the proposed Underline here in Miami.

The High Line is the inspiration for the Underline, a 10-mile stretch from the Miami River to Dadeland South that lies underneath the Metrorail. The Underline would provide a space for pedestrians, bikes and other recreation.

The project is looked at as a way of giving back to the community and making use of the leftover public land, as said by Meg Daly, head of Friends of the Under.

Philip Aarons spoke also of the $2 billion economic impact that The High Line has had as well as the outstanding 4.5 million visitors that it has attracted in 2012. The preliminary renderings of the new Underline were created by the University of Miami School of Architecture, with the preliminary design due in September.
